Even
if you don't run yourself or enjoy watching others, you might want to
check the schedule of road races anyway. As many cross the major traffic
routes of the Cape, you may encounter a nasty traffic jam if you happen to
be out on the day of a major race.
In
addition to baseball, Massachusetts Maritime Academy hosts other sporting
events, such as football, volleyball, and cross-country. Home football
games are held at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Taylor's Point, in
Buzzards Bay. For schedules, call Mass Maritime at (508) 830-5000, or
check the Cape Cod Times sports section.
The
Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod, located on Mass. Rt. 151 in Mashpee,
offers structured and unstructured activities for kids ages 6 to 18 from 9
AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. They've got a teen room, computer room,
game room with pool tables and ping pong, an arts and crafts room, and
they offer league play and weekly field trips. The cost is $10 per child
for the summer months; another $10 membership fee is charged for the
September-to-June school year, when activities are offered from 3 PM to 8
PM.
Bikes and
rollerblades are everywhere, especially on the Shining Sea Bike Path, from
Falmouth to Woods Hole and the Cape Rail Trail, from Dennis to Wellfleet.
Another popular spot is along Ocean Drive in Wellfleet. Park your vehicle
in the lot behind the Wellfleet General Store on U.S. Rt. 6 and skate or
bike down LeCounts Hollow Road until it turns into Ocean Drive, a mile
from the intersection of U.S. Rt. 6 and LeCounts Hollow Road. You can only
turn north, and the newly paved road takes you along the dunes of the
Atlantic Ocean, which are called Four Mile Beach and Surfer's Beach.
